Beyond the Basics
Beyond the Basics – 2.5 Hours
Already comfortable catching your own waves and keen to take things a bit further? This session is all about building confidence and getting more out of your surf. This session is not for beginners — to get the most out of it, you should already be able to stand up and catch whitewater on your own.
Fraser will be running these sessions — he’s been coaching for over 20 years, and after taking a year off, he’s back this summer to teach a handful of small, focused classes (just three or four sessions).
Each class starts with a relaxed 30-minute chat on surf theory — how to read the forecast, understand swell and wind, and pick the best spots and time to surf.
The rest of the session will be spent in the water, working on wave selection, positioning in the lineup, timing, and manoeuvres.
With a small group (max 6 surfers), Fraser will be able to pinpoint your needs and give focused feedback to help you progress at your own pace — perfect for surfers who feel stuck and are having a hard time getting to the next step in their surfing.
On the morning of your class, please allow around 3 hours in total, as we may change locations to suit the conditions and avoid crowds. You will be notified of the location the day before your class.
If you require gear, let us know in advance and we can supply equipment — otherwise, we’ll assume you’re bringing your own board and gear.
Please note these sessions are for ages 16 and above.
